Let it go

One thing I've learnt about love is this: you have no control over your heart when it comes to falling for someone, but more so, you have absolutely no control over the person you choose to fall for. Sure, some of them do reciprocate the feelings you have for them, but most of the time it's not the case. You keep running behind them, hoping that someday their feelings for you might change, that someday your charming ways or your amazing sense of humour might finally win them over. But that almost never happens. They'll make all sorts of excuses to avoid conversations, they'll tell you that they're not looking for a relationship when in reality it's just you they're not looking for. As brutal as it may sound, deep down inside you know it's true. And it's not their fault that they don't feel the same way about you, just like it's not your fault that you fell for them. It just happens. And there's nothing you can do about it.

So let it go.

There is absolutely no point in beating yourself for something that's not under your control. You also need to realise that sometimes, you're just in love with the idea of a certain person, and not the person himself. Know the difference. Stop undermining yourself because they don't value you enough. Get rid of the anger and frustration that's been building inside. Punch a pillow or two maybe. But stop wearing yourself down for the likes of one person. It's not worth it. You can do a lot better. You deserve a lot better.

Understand this: It's not love if it makes you feel lost and dejected. Love is a feeling that makes it's way through and excites every single cell in your body. It lifts your spirits in the most beautiful way possible. It doesn't bring you down. It doesn't make you feel miserable. It gives you clarity. It makes you feel beautiful. It makes you a better person.

So the next time you lie awake staring at the ceiling at 2am in the morning, wondering why he or she isn't replying to your text, ask yourself this- Is it really worth my time and energy? And if the answer is negative, keep your phone aside, switch off your lights, and get some sleep. Your body will thank you in the morning. And your heart..eventually.
